Many individuals in my social circle struggle with setting boundaries with their family, especially their parents. I’ve observed that this difficulty arises from their inability to comprehend that the word “no” can function as a complete sentence. A simple “no” should suffice as a response without requiring lengthy explanations or justifications. I find it incredibly frustrating when people expect more than necessary after receiving a straightforward “no” in response to their requests. It is essential to understand that setting boundaries is vital to maintaining healthy relationships, and it is perfectly acceptable to say no when something doesn’t align with our values or priorities.
