About Sophie J.

Life, questions, and everything in between.

A Caribbean woman, daughter, sister, believer, therapist, occasional overthinker, and professional collector of random observations.

Most days, the most accurate way to describe me is simply: a work in progress.

I was born and raised in Haiti, eventually found myself building a life in North America, and somewhere along the way developed a habit of writing things down.

Though honestly, the habit started long before that.

My parents were readers. Genuinely committed, passionate readers. And without making a big production of it, they passed that on to me. Books were just part of the house. Part of the culture. Part of how we understood the world.

I fell in love with reading early and never recovered.

There is something about losing yourself completely in a book—another world, another voice, another life entirely—that never gets old. It still doesn’t.

Writing followed naturally. When you love stories enough, eventually you want to try telling your own.

I did not start writing because I had answers.

I started writing because I had questions.

Questions about identity, belonging, faith, relationships, grief, healing, culture, adulthood, and what it means to continuously become.

This blog is where those questions live.

It is where I think out loud.

Sometimes thoughtfully. Sometimes dramatically. Usually with too many tabs open.

Some posts are deeply reflective. Some are lighthearted observations. Some are cultural commentary. Some are stories from my life. Others begin as a random thought that refuses to leave me alone until I write about it.

By profession, I’m a therapist. But this space is not about that.

This is where I get to simply be human.

What you’ll find here is not a blueprint.

You’ll find perspective.

A collection of experiences, lessons, questions, opinions, and observations gathered while trying to navigate this wonderfully complicated thing called life.

I believe in growth.

I believe in curiosity.

I believe people are far more complex than the labels we assign them.

Most importantly, I believe none of us truly have it all figured out.

This little corner of the internet exists because I enjoy sharing the journey.

So whether you’re here for the stories, the reflections, the occasional internet commentary, or simply because you clicked a link and decided to stay, welcome.

I’m glad you found your way here.

Stay awhile.

Just remember: even here, you’re still getting a curated version of the story.

But the perspective is real.

Writing has quietly carried me through a lot over the years. If you’ve enjoyed reading along and would like to support the blog, you can do so here: ☕ https://ko-fi.com/sophiejexperiences
