I’m heading to the gym, wearing my oldest pair of worn-in New Balance sneakers. They’re not fancy—sturdy and a bit scuffed—but they carry a story.
I received them from my Nana after I shared with her how going for walks was helping my mental health. True to her character, she sprang into action and discovered that these shoes were highly recommended for long walks. A few days later, she surprised me with a pair.
Since then, they’ve become my favorite shoes for walking, the gym, and grounding myself when I need to reconnect with my body. They’re more than just shoes; they remind me that someone was listening and that care can sometimes come in arch support and a well-cushioned sole.
