Doing the Work, Dreaming Bigger

Daily writing prompt
What’s your dream job?

The first thought that came to mind was: “I don’t have a dream job because I don’t dream of labor.” It’s a quote that floats around the internet; funny, yes, but also not entirely wrong.

That said, I am doing work I once aspired to. Since leaving high school and entering college as a psychology major, my path has been anything but linear. I moved to another country, learned a new language, studied while working full-time, and a few years ago, intentionally stepped into a career in mental health counseling. That part matters. It wasn’t accidental.

But is this my dream job? After sitting with the question, the answer is… not exactly.

What I truly dream of is building something larger than a role or a title. I dream of creating a center for immigrants and people from diverse backgrounds, a space that offers realistic pathways, guidance, and, most importantly, community. A place where people feel less alone as they adapt, or readapt, to a new country. A place designed to soften the years of confusion, overwhelm, and silent suffering that so often come with navigating unfamiliar systems, and that too frequently evolve into anxiety, depression, and isolation.I want to build something that helps people avoid burnout.

So yes…if “fund a girl’s project” resonates with you…I’m the girl.
