Can I?

Daily writing prompt
Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

Remember the text below: “You must save yourself before focusing on someone else’s situation. Growing up in a family where my parents led a life of service, the norm was to help others in all situations. Often, they would be tired from their daily tasks and still choose to use their rest time to help someone else. Sometimes, I would have been fine with saying no, but they rarely would have done so. Fast forward, I often think about their sacrifices and how thinly they would spread themselves. I decide to choose a different approach.”
I strive to lead a life of service while practicing boundaries and saying no when necessary. I believe it’s important to do less and allow yourself to recharge to be more present. I wish I had learned this lesson earlier in life, as I used to constantly feel guilty for not being able to prioritize my own needs over catering to everyone else. Some days, it’s still a struggle, as old habits die hard, but I am committed to being mindful of my needs and limitations. Always.
