As of now, I truly appreciate a good nap. I can’t believe I used to fight against them. Now, I will nap anywhere, as long as it feels safe. Whether on a couch, in a quiet room, or in the middle of the day with the sun shining, naps have become non-negotiable for me.
When I first started working in private practice, cancellations used to irritate me. Since it’s contract work and I get paid per visit, a no-show felt like a disruption. But now, if there’s a cancellation and my body is signaling for rest, I take a nap without any guilt. Rest has become a necessary response, not just a reward.
Even on vacation, where I genuinely enjoy activities and exploring, I schedule in a nap. It’s not an afterthought; it’s part of the plan. I’ve learned something important: to fully enjoy my leisure time, my nervous system needs rest first.
Sleep is no longer seen as laziness to me; it’s maintenance. It’s how I show up better for work, joy, the people around me, and for myself. It turns out, what I enjoy most right now isn’t doing more; it’s resting well. 😌
