I have been listening to Summer Walker’s new album for the past week, and let me tell you….. it is so good even though I can’t relate 😂😂😂! Her song “4th baby mama” is on repeat on my car, and I don’t know why! I’m not the only one hooked up on the album with no kids nor trifling baby daddy! In her first verse, Summer called out her baby daddy’s mama herself, accusing her of being an enabler because she profits from it! And I couldn’t stop thinking about this for the whole week, so I would like to speak on it! (Kandy Burrus’ style).
No one wants to be accused of being an enabler but aren’t we all sometimes? How many times have you called out your close friends or relatives on their actions when needed? Confronting someone else is never easy, especially if we’re trying to be on their good side. But I kept thinking about it, how responsible are we when we consciously choose to become enablers? You’re probably thinking, we are all accountable for our actions, and it is not your place to educate anyone, but what does it say about your character?
If you suspect your good friend is engaging in self-destructive actions, harming them or others, would you close your eyes and not say anything? And when other people call them out, do you immediately back away or look for excuses? Do you even engage in a conversation with your friends? Would you feel comfortable around them, knowing how their behaviors affect others? Here is a free judgment zone, and quite frankly, I think it is a huge responsibility to call out close ones but shouldn’t it be done by someone who loves and cares about them (assuming you do)? And if, for some reason, your perception was accurate, how do you deal with the situation? Blind eye attitude or open-heart discussion?
I don’t have an answer for any of this! But how many times do you hear horror stories and family and friends coming out later on with tearful apologies regretting their enabling attitudes? Aren’t they guilty by association? Especially if there is abuse, death, scams exposed.
PS: I want to know who broke Bruno Mars’s heart!!!!!! My man went from leaving doors open to smoking out of car windows !!!! How dreadful!
